CEN TR 15729 Standard Test for Plastic Piping Systems, Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UP) Based Glass-Reinforced Thermosetting Plastics

This Technical Paper describes a method for determining the average wear of the inner surface of glass-reinforced thermosetting polyester resin (GRP) pipes conforming to EN 14364, measured after a specified number of test cycles of a given water/abrasive mixture. The test is carried out on a tube test piece with a semicircular duct.

The procedure described in this Technical Report is intended to be used as a tool to evaluate and compare the performance of GRP pipes after being subjected to a certain wear regime. The main difference between this regimen and other similar procedures is the use of Corundum, a graded man-made abrasive.

The abrasive's specification ISO 8486-1 provides the determination of the grain size distribution of fused aluminum oxide, silicon carbide and other abrasive materials for bonded abrasives and general industrial applications.
