DIN 4102-16 Fire Behavior of Building Materials and Building Components, Part 16: Standard Method for Brandschacht Tests

The test method is used to perform fire reaction tests of building materials. Brandschacht is a square enclosure into which air is supplied at a constant flow rate from below and flue gas exits from above.

It is equipped with a square gas burner in which the sample is exposed to flame, placed in a mounting frame to form a chimney.

Under certain conditions, when a building material is exposed to fire, its behavior against fire by breaking down determines the reaction of that material to fire at the same time. The fireproof class is determined according to the reaction of the building material to fire.
