EN 13036-3 Road and Airport Surface Properties - Test Methods - Part 3: Test for Measurement of Horizontal Drainage of Pavement Surface

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 13036-3 testing. This European Standard describes a method for determining the horizontal drainage of a road surface as an indication of relatively low surface texture using the outflow meter as a stationary device.

EN 13036-3 Road and Airport Surface Properties - Test Methods - Part 3: Test for Measurement of Horizontal Drainage of Pavement Surface

The method provides a measure of the drainage in the road/tire contact area for use on all smooth non-porous road surfaces (average profile depth less than 0,4 mm) in the field or laboratory. Because the method measures the horizontal drainage of a small area of the surface, only the selection of the test area should be carefully considered to represent the overall area where measurements will be made.

When performing the test on a construction site, adequate safety precautions must be taken to ensure a safe work area, as the equipment and operator form a fixed barrier.

The horizontal drainability of relatively smooth surfaces simulates the evacuation of water from the contact area under a moving vehicle tire. The output meter is placed on the test surface and filled with water. The time required for the water level to drop from top to bottom is recorded.

The egress meter's carrier ring with rubber ring should be replaced when the expiration date has passed. During its service life, the carrier ring will be carefully protected from dirt, oil and grease. For longer intervals between test programs, the output meter should be stored in the transport box at (20 ± 5)°C, protected from light and air.

Before each test, the rubber ring on the carrier ring should be checked for any cuts, cracks, surface damage or warping and that it is clean. If damaged, the carrier ring should be replaced before testing. The watertightness of the output meter under test conditions should be checked on a flat glass plate before starting and after a series of tests. There will be no drop in water level for a period of 5 minutes.
