EN 13200-3 Audience Facilities - Standard Test Method for Separation Elements

The items and barriers included in this standard are:

• Front barrier of a row of fixed seats;
• Barrier adjacent to the last row of seats;
• Barrier behind the rear row of seats;
• Barrier at the bottom of the scaffolding or ladder aligned at right angles to the direction of movement;
• Side or side barrier aligned parallel to the direction of movement of the spectator;
• Crossing barriers;
• Scaffolding barriers in standing areas aligned at right angles to the direction of audience movement;
• crushing obstacles;
• Barriers for spectator galleries;
• External environmental barriers and barriers between sectors.

If there is a danger of falling for spectators or if persons must be restrained, stopped, directed, separated, the need to install a barrier or other measures to achieve the objectives specified in this sentence shall be taken into account.

In assessing the need for a barrier and the type of barrier to be provided, the designer and grounds management will consider building use and risks to building users. In cases where more than one use is envisaged in a building, either the barrier design will be selected to suit the worst case, or more than one barrier type will be provided in accordance with the location.
