This part of EN 1366 specifies a method for determining the fire resistance of non-mechanical fire barriers mounted on fire separation elements designed to resist heat and the passage of high temperature smoke and gases. This European Standard is used together with EN 1363-1 and EN 1366-2.
This European Standard is not suitable for testing non-mechanical fire barriers in suspended ceilings without modification.
This European Standard is not suitable for testing products such as air transfer grilles, as the pressures and flows involved are different and may result in different behaviour.
During the test, temperature and integrity measurements are taken in various parts of the test structure. Leakage of the non-mechanical fire barrier system is measured by direct flow measurements (continuous during testing) while maintaining a constant pressure difference across the 300 Pa closed non-mechanical fire barrier.
This shall consist of a venturi, orifice plate or other suitable device and (where required) an airflow straightener, mounted on straight lengths of pipe, all dimensioned in accordance with EN ISO 5167-1, EN ISO 5167-2 and EN ISO 5167-. It will be mounted between the connection duct and the exhaust fan to determine the volumetric flow rate of gases passing through the tested non-mechanical fire barrier. The measuring device will be capable of measuring with ±5% accuracy. Regardless of testing vertical or horizontal non-mechanical fire barriers, the volumetric flow measuring station should always be used in the horizontal direction.
