EN 1393 Plastic Pipe Systems - Glass Reinforced Thermoset Plastic (GRP) Pipes - Determination of Initial Longitudinal Tensile Properties Test

This standard specifies three test methods for determining the longitudinal tensile properties of pipes made of glass-reinforced thermosetting plastics (GRP).

Identifiable features are:

• Longitudinal tensile strength;
• Final elongation percentage;
• Longitudinal modulus of elasticity.

Method A uses a longitudinal strip cut from a pipe for the test piece(s). Method B uses a certain length of the full cross section of the pipe. Method C uses a notched plate cut from a section of pipe wall.

Method A is applicable to pipes of nominal size DN 50 or greater and centrifugal cast pipes with circularly wound filament, with or without chopped glass or woven rovings or fillers. It is applicable to pipes with helically wound filaments of nominal size DN 200 or larger.

Method B is applicable to all GRP pipe types. It is generally used for pipes of nominal size up to DN 150.

Results from one method are not necessarily equal to results from any of the alternative methods. However, all methods have equal validity.
