EN 14157 Natural Stone Test Methods

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 14157 testing. This standard specifies the test method for determining the abrasion resistance of natural stone used for flooring in buildings.

EN 14157 Natural Stone Test Methods

The test is performed by abrading the face of a sample that will be exposed to an abrasive material in use under standard conditions.

The abrasive required for this test is 42 grain size corundum (white fused alumina) according to technical document FEPA 1-2006:80. It should not be used more than three times.

The abrasive machine is mainly made of a wide abrasive wheel, a storage hopper with one or two control valves to regulate the outlet of the abrasive material, a flow direction hopper, a compaction car and a counterweight.

When using two valves, one will be used to regulate the flow rate and is permanently adjustable, and the other will be used to turn the flow on and off.

The wide wear wheel shall be made of Fe 10025 steel according to EN 690. The hardness of the steel will be between 203 HB and 245 HB. Its diameter will be (200 ± 1) mm and its width (70 ± 1) mm. It will be driven to rotate 60 revolutions in (3 ± 75) s.

A movable clamping carriage is mounted on the bearings and is forced towards the wheel by a counterweight with a mass of (14 ± 0.01) kg.

The storage hopper containing the abrasive material feeds a flow diverting hopper.
