EN 17681-1 Textiles and Textile Products - Test for Organic Fluorine

A test method (using gas chromatography, GC) for the detection and quantification of selected extractable perfluorinated and polyfluorinated substances is specified in FprEN 17681-2.

Both this document and FprEN 17681-2 are required for PFOA related items.
Regulated classes of compounds are listed in Table 2. This document also applies to other PFAS substances, provided the method is validated with additional compounds.

Commission Authorized Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 amending Annex I of the POPs Regulation (EU) 2020/784 regarding the listing of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and PFOA-related compounds, among others "'...PFOA-related compounds' means: ... any substance that degrades to PFOA, including any substance (including salts and polymers) that has a linear or branched perfluoroheptyl group with the C moiety (C7F15) as one of the structural elements. It may be necessary to apply an alkaline hydrolysis method to remove the side chain from the polymer.
