EN ISO 6270-3 specifies the general conditions and procedures to be followed when testing coated test specimens in stable condensate atmospheres to ensure that the results of tests performed in different laboratories are reproducible. The shape and preparation of the test samples, the duration of the test and the evaluation of the test results are not included in this standard.
The purpose of this standard is to provide consistent conditions and procedures for conditioning pre-prepared test specimens to be evaluated for defects that may develop when exposed to humid ambient atmospheres such as constant condensate atmospheres or variable condensate atmospheres.
The tests are designed to clarify the behavior of test specimens in humid atmospheres and to detect defects in the corrosion protection of test specimens. Testing coatings in these atmospheres may not yield life expectancy data.
Compressed air is foamed in the heated water and a saturated water vapor is introduced into the test chamber. It creates a supersaturated atmosphere in the test chamber. Under the supersaturated atmosphere, the temperature of the test specimens and the room atmosphere will be almost the same, and condensation will occur continuously. The rotation of the test specimens ensures uniform condensation on the test specimens.
