EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 7887 standard. EN ISO 7887 specifies four different methods for color inspection, specified from A to D.
It is used in water treatment plants, limnological research, etc. The previously most widely used method for assessing water color was based on the hexachloroplatinate scale. Methods C and D are aligned with this conventional procedure.
Method A involves examining the apparent color by visually observing a sample of water in a bottle. This gives only preliminary information for use, for example, in field work. Only the visible color can be reported.
Method B involves determining the true color of a water sample using optical apparatus and can be applied to raw and drinking water as well as low-colour industrial water. A sub-clause on initiatives is included.
Method C involves determining the true color of a water sample using optical apparatus for comparison with the hexachloroplatinate concentration at wavelength λ = 410 nm. A sub-clause on initiatives is included.
Method D involves determining the color by visual comparison with hexachloroplatinate standard solutions and is applicable to raw and drinking water. A sub-clause on initiatives is included.
If the hue of the sample differs from the hue of the matching solution, methods A and B are appropriate. When specifying the result, the procedure used (methods A to D) is also recorded.
