This standard covers the determination of the performance of sound system equipment, the comparison of such equipment and the determination of their appropriate practical application by listing the features useful for their specification and by laying out uniform measurement methods for these characteristics.
The standard is limited to the definition of different characteristics and related measurement methods; does not specify performance in general.
If measurements are to be made at discrete frequencies, these will be the frequencies specified in ISO Standard 266 as the preferred frequencies for acoustic measurements and repeated in Table I. rather, this will be the standard reference frequency of 1000 Hz.
If a measurement is to be made using only one signal frequency, the signal frequency will be the selected reference frequency. If measurements are to be made at a range of different frequencies, the selected reference frequency should be included, while the other frequencies should be chosen so that the measurement results adequately represent the behavior of the characteristics over the entire effective frequency.
Terminals and controls shall be adequately marked to provide information about their function, characteristics and polarity. The marking should be such that it is possible to set the controls and locate them with sufficient accuracy in conjunction with the information given in the operating instructions.
