ISO 16999 does not cover sampling and cutting of test pieces to derive characteristic values for structural design. These tests are performed on medium-sized test pieces.
Test pieces shall be cut from individual panels to the dimensions specified in the relevant test methods standards, using an appropriate method to ensure unbiased selection. At least one test piece from each set of test pieces shall be cut from the edge of the trimmed panel after any edge profile or protective treatment has been removed.
The size n of the sample depends on the purpose of determining the panel properties. The sample size can be specified in the relevant International standard.
Due to variability both within and between panels, a certain number of panels n as well as a certain number of test pieces m cut from a single panel must be tested to obtain reliable results.
