It can also be used to determine comparative data for different material types through a scratch map where the test load and test speed are determined using the basic constant method of the types of scratch behavior for each set of test conditions.

The method is suitable for use with uncoated and unlacquered thermoplastic molding materials and thermosetting molding materials. The method specifies the preferred dimensions and preferred pick geometry for the test specimen.
