This test is designed to apply to spin-on filters and detachable filters with disposable elements with a maximum flow rate of 100 L/min. With the agreement of the manufacturer and purchaser, this test method can be applied to filters with higher flow rates.

This test method is designed for test pieces made of composite materials that are subject to changes in mechanical properties over the temperature range experienced during service. The test may be applied to filters in combination with other temperature sensitive materials, if deemed practicable by agreement between the filter manufacturer and the purchaser.

Filter heads, adapters, mounting brackets, etc. Oil filter assemblies, including integrally mounted, are subjected to stringent frequencies from engine or installation vibrations. The test specified in this document verifies the filter assembly's ability to withstand vibration under pressure for a predetermined number of cycles.

Oil filtration products are exposed to engine oils and high temperatures as part of their function. The physical properties of composites can be affected by fluid and temperature interactions. This preconditioning method can be modified as agreed by the filter manufacturer and the purchaser.

Place the test piece in a laboratory oven or thermal chamber and heat to a test temperature and duration agreed by the filter manufacturer and purchaser. If no temperature or time is specified, heat to 250°C for 121 hours. The default conditions are representative of real-world conditions and are considered sufficient to promote material degradation in sensitive materials. At the end of the soaking period and after cooling to ambient temperature, the oil can be drained to facilitate mounting on the vibration stand.
