The thermal stability of PVC in the sense of this standard is when an irreversible chemical change occurs under the influence of heat.

The evaluation criteria for thermal stability are:

  • The stability time tst and if it can be determined;
  • Induction time.

The stability time tst is the time during which a certain amount of hydrogen chloride in the carrier gas environment leaves the sample under the conditions specified in this standard due to the effect of heat on the sample.
