This part of EN 1049 specifies three methods for determining the number of threads per centimeter in woven fabrics. Any of the three methods can be used, the choice depends on the character of the fabric. However, in case of conflict, method A is recommended.
Method A: Dissection of fabric suitable for all fabrics. This is the most laborious method, but has fewer restrictions than the others; In particular, it is the only structure truly suitable for the study of some crimped structures and other complex weaves.
Method B: The counting glass is suitable for woven fabrics containing more than 50 threads per centimeter.
Method C: The cross thread counter is suitable for all fabrics.
In cases where the number of threads per centimeter is low, it may be appropriate to express the results as threads per decimeter.
One of the standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing textiles as defined in IS0 139 shall be used for conditioning and testing.
Some twill, satin etc. As with fabrics, if the face of the fabric consists mainly of a string of threads, it may be easier to rely on the back side of the fabric, where the woven design is more recognizable.
