EN 12132-2 Feather and Down - Methods for Testing the Feather Resistant Properties of Fabrics - Part 2: Impact Testing

This standard specifies a method for determining down and feather penetration from the primary tick fabric of a sample containing down or down fill using an impact apparatus.

A cylindrical pillow is made from the fabric whose feather-proof properties are to be tested and filled with a certain amount of down material or mixtures thereof. Sliding on an inclined plane, this cushion is moved by a fixed rod towards a fixed plate and thereby compressed. With the fixed impact rake that moves backwards after impact, the pillow rolls back and regains its shape. This procedure is repeated continuously until a certain number of pulses is reached.

Because the stroke of the fixed plate is greater or less than the circumference of the cushion, the cushion will be compressed in different places. The number of down or feather particles that pass through or come out of the primary tick fabric is counted.

The upper vertical pin plate is firmly mounted and is used as the impact plate P. This plate has only one central pin of the same dimensions as above, aligned between the three pins of the movable plate.
