EN 13036-2 Road and Airport Surface Properties - Test Methods - Part 2: Evaluation of Slip Resistance of a Road Paving Surface Using Dynamic Measurement Systems

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 13036-2 testing. This Technical specification describes a method for determining the slip resistance of a pavement surface of a road or airspace. This method defines a process for comparing friction results from a set of devices.

EN 13036-2 Road and Airport Surface Properties - Test Methods - Part 2: Evaluation of Slip Resistance of a Road Paving Surface Using Dynamic Measurement Systems

By bringing together friction and texture from separate measuring devices, it enables the slip resistance determined by different dynamic methods to be expressed on a common scale, namely the Slip Resistance Index (SRI). As its precision has not been determined, the method should not be used in specifications for surface materials. This standard does not cover surfaces in winter road condition. It also excludes road marking surfaces.

The slip resistance of a surface is determined by taking into account friction measurement using one of several permitted devices and surface texture measurement using one of several permitted procedures.

Appropriate safety measures will be implemented to provide a safe workplace in accordance with regulations, including measures to control traffic where necessary. All devices must be operated safely and equipped with safety devices in accordance with relevant procedures and regulations.

Under normal circumstances, the friction and macrotexture measurement should be taken along a line in the side wheel path of the nominally most heavily trafficked lane; the actual distance from the edge will vary. However, other traces on the surface can also be measured if necessary. The transverse location of all tests should be identified and reported.

Devices that measure macrotexture or friction while moving and take samples from the surface at regular intervals, the longitudinal test location is given in the operating procedure of the device. Static devices measure at sampling intervals defined in the procedure or as defined by the physical constraints of the site, the test site should be recorded. In addition, the start and end position referenced from a known point throughout the test section should be recorded for all devices.
