This standard specifies the requirements and tests for a single product consisting of a minimum of two parts, an EN 1 compliant ladder and a separate platform, where the platform height is not higher than 131 m in the use position and the platform is intended. This part of the standard is intended to be used in conjunction with EN 131-1, EN 131-2 and EN 131-3.
If the platform or its structural parts are made of plastic, they should be made of reinforced thermoplastic and tested according to EN 131-2, test methods for plastic ladders, reinforced thermoplastic. Acceptance criteria before and after the aging test should be ≤ 20% of the results obtained during the tensile test.
Corrosion sensitive metal parts shall be protected by a paint coating or other coating. Under normal conditions, aluminum alloys are not susceptible to corrosion. Wooden parts will be covered from all sides. The coating should be transparent and permeable to water vapor.
To avoid injuries, accessible edges, corners and protruding parts must be burr-free, for example chamfered or rounded. Wooden parts should be straightened from all sides.
The platform and ladders will be designed in such a way that the upper surface of the platform cannot be positioned on both ladders with a height of more than 1000 mm from the ground. A marking is not sufficient to limit the maximum platform height.
Tests in platform position should be performed on the entire assembly of the platform and ladder sections, with the platform in working position and at maximum height. The weight of the steel plate is included in the preload, test load or vertical load.
