EN 13120 Internal Shutters Performance Requirements Testing Including Safety

This European standard specifies the requirements that interior louvres must meet when installed in a building. It also deals with the significant machinery hazards associated with the construction, transportation, installation, operation and maintenance of interior louvres.

It applies to interior blinds, whatever their design and nature of the materials used, as listed below:

• Blinds: free hanging, guided, non-retractable;
• Roller blind: free-hanging, side-guided, stretch fabric;
• Vertical curtain: free hanging, with top and bottom rails, inclined headboard;
• Pleated and honeycomb curtain: free hanging, guided, lateral action, stretched;
• Roman Tones;
• Austria/Festoon blinds;
• Panel shutters;
• Plantation shutters;
• Roller blinds.

These products can be operated manually, with or without compensating springs, or by means of electric motors (powered products).

This standard does not apply to drapes and mosquito nets. Not applicable to louvers in sealed glass units, except for suffocation protection requirements.

Mosquito nets can be installed internally or externally. However, since they are always exposed to external conditions in use (window/door open), mosquito nets are within the scope of EN 13561 applied to exterior blinds and awnings. Noise issues are not addressed in this standard because it is not considered a safety issue.
