EN 1399 Flexible Floor Coverings - Standard Test for Determination of Resistance to Cut and Burning Cigarettes

A load is applied to a lit cigarette butt placed on the surface of a test piece. After cleaning, the surface is examined under specified light conditions for any visible changes.

A lit cigarette is placed in full length contact with the horizontal surface of a test piece. After cleaning, it is examined whether there are visible changes on the surface.

Use a largely draft-free environment at room temperature, record the temperature while performing the test. Use at least one cigarette for each brand of cigarette. If the tests are carried out simultaneously, the intervals of the cigarettes should be such that mutual influence is not possible.

Light one end of the cigarette and draw air through it until 10 mm is consumed. Place the smoldering cigarette in place on the surface of the test piece, making sure that it is in full-length contact with the horizontal surface of the test piece and that the glued seam of the cigarette is facing up.
