EN 14276-1 Pressure Equipment - Vessels - General Requirements for Cooling Systems and Heat Pumps

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 14276-1 test. This standard covers material, design, manufacture, testing and documentation requirements for constant pressure vessels intended for use in refrigeration systems and heat pumps. These systems are referred to in this document as cooling systems as defined in EN 378-1.

EN 14276-1 Pressure Equipment - Vessels - General Requirements for Cooling Systems and Heat Pumps

The term "cooling system" used in this standard also includes heat pumps. This standard applies to containers, including welded or brazed joints up to nozzle flanges, screwed, welded or brazed connectors, or the edge to be welded or brazed at the first peripheral joint connecting pipes or other elements.

This standard applies to pressure vessels with an internal pressure of up to -1 bar to take into account the emptying of the vessel before filling the refrigerant.

This standard applies to both mechanical loading conditions and thermal conditions as defined in EN 13445-3 for refrigeration systems. Applies to pressure vessels subject to maximum allowable temperatures, for which the rated design stresses for materials are derived using EN 13445-2 and EN 13445-3 or as specified in this standard. In addition, the maximum allowable temperature of vessels designed according to this standard should not exceed 200°C and the maximum design pressure should not exceed 160 bar. Outside these limits, it is important to use the EN 13445 series in the design, construction and inspection of the ship. Under these circumstances, it is also important to consider the unique nature of the refrigeration plant, as stated in the introduction to this standard.

This standard does not apply to the following types of containers:

  • Containers of riveted structure;
  • Multilayer, autofrettage or prestressed vessels;
  • Containers heated by direct flame;
  • "Roll tie" heat exchangers.
