EN 14276-2 Pressure Equipment for Refrigeration Systems and Heat Pumps - Piping - General Requirements

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 14276-2 testing. This standard specifies the material, design, fabrication, testing and documentation requirements for fixed piping intended for use in refrigeration systems, heat pumps and secondary cooling and heating systems.

EN 14276-2 Pressure Equipment for Refrigeration Systems and Heat Pumps - Piping - General Requirements

These cooling systems and heat pump systems are referred to in this standard as cooling systems as defined in EN 378-1. The term "cooling system" used in this standard also includes heat pumps.

This standard applies to screwed, welded or brazed fasteners or pipes up to the edge to be welded or brazed at the first circumferential joint connecting pipes or other elements, including welded or brazed joints up to and to the flanges.

This standard applies to the selection, application and installation of safety accessories to protect piping during the various phases of the refrigeration cycle.

This standard applies to the following piping:

  • Heat exchanger consisting of pipes for cooling or heating the air where piping features are predominant;
  • Pipes included in an assembly (eg, self-contained system, condensing unit);
  • Pipes installed on site.

This standard applies to pipes with an internal pressure of up to -1 bar to take into account the evacuation of the pipes before charging the refrigerant.

This standard applies to both mechanical loading conditions and thermal conditions as defined in EN 13445-3 for refrigeration systems. Applies to pipelines subject to maximum allowable temperatures, where rated design stresses for materials are derived using EN 14276-1 or as specified in this document. In addition, the maximum design temperature of the pipes designed according to this standard shall not exceed 200°C and the maximum design pressure shall not exceed 160 bar. Outside of these limits, EN 13480 series can be used for design, construction and inspection of pipes. Under these circumstances, the unique nature of a refrigeration plant as specified in the introduction to EN 14276-1 will also be taken into account.
