EN 1492-1 Textile Straps - Part 1: Standard Test Method for Plain Webbing Made of Man-made Fibers for General Purpose Use

Flat woven webbing slings within the scope of this part of EN 1492 are designed for general purpose lifting operations, ie when used to lift objects, materials or goods that do not require deviations from specified requirements, safety factors or working load limits.

Lifting operations not covered by this standard include lifting persons, molten metal and acids, sheets of glass, fissile materials, nuclear reactors and, where special conditions apply, potentially hazardous materials.

Plain webbing slings conforming to this European standard are suitable for use and storage in the following temperature ranges:

  • Polyester and polyamide -40°C to 100°C;
  • Polypropylene -40°C to 80°C;

This European standard does not apply to the following types of webbing slings:

  • Bag straps, nets (consisting of several criss-cross weaves sewn together), adjustable straps (for example, with spacer buckles sewn across the weave), etc.;
  • Suspenders made of woven fabric from monofilament yarns;
  • Slings designed for the front sling and not intended to be reused.

This European standard addresses the technical requirements to minimize the hazards that may arise during the use of plain weave webbing slings when done in accordance with the instructions and specifications given by the manufacturer or his authorized representative.
