The tests consist of the application of loads, forces, and speeds that simulate normal functional use, as well as misuse that can reasonably be expected to occur. Strength and durability tests only concern hinges and parts used for attachment, for example mounting plates and screws.
Strength and durability tests are carried out in a test framework with specified specifications. Test results can only be used as a guide to the performance of a piece of furniture.
The test results are valid only for the hinges tested. These results can be used to represent the performance of production models, provided that the model under test represents the production model. Excluding corrosion, aging and the effect of heat and moisture are not included.
The purpose of this European standard is to provide furniture manufacturers, designers and developers with comparable information on the performance of all types of hinges and components rotating on a vertical axis.
If mounting or adjustment instructions are not provided, the most unfavorable configuration should be used and the mounting method should be recorded in the test report. Fittings should be tightened prior to testing and should not be retightened unless specifically required in the manufacturer's instructions. If the configuration needs to be changed to create worst-case conditions, this should be recorded in the test report.
