EN 16806-1 Textiles and Textile Products - Textile Products Containing Phase Change Materials (PCM)

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 16806-1 testing. This part of EN 16806 specifies a test method for determining the heat storage and heat release capacity and phase change temperatures of textile fibers, yarns and fabrics (woven and knitted fabrics, nonwovens) containing phase change materials (PCM). The test method can also be applied to pure or micro-encapsulated PCM.

EN 16806-1 Textiles and Textile Products - Textile Products Containing Phase Change Materials (PCM)

This part of EN 16806 does not apply to the determination of heat transfer properties of textile fabrics containing phase change materials (woven and knitted fabrics, non-woven fabrics) to which part 16806 of EN 2 applies.

This part of EN 16806 applies to clothing, mattresses, etc., made with PCM-containing materials, to which part 16806 of EN 3 applies. For textile products, it does not apply to the determination of heat transfer between the user and the product.

Open aluminum crucibles will be used to provide an isobaric measurement. It is advisable to put a lid on the crucible, but it should not be hermetically sealed.

Test equipment should be calibrated periodically in accordance with the equipment manufacturer's instructions and recommendations, ie regarding the use and shelf life of calibration standards. The calibration procedure of EN ISO 11357-1 will be followed. Calibration materials should be chosen with a transition temperature as close as possible to the phase change temperature of the PCM. Heating rate will be 5°C/min.

The sample will be representative of the sample under examination and will be carefully prepared and processed. Special care should be taken to avoid contamination of the sample. If the sample crucible is closed with a lid, this will not cause any deformation in the crucible bottom. Good thermal contact must be maintained between the sample and the ladle and between the ladle and the holder.
