EN 17098-1 Plastics - Barrier Films for Disinfection of Soil via Fumigation

This standard also defines guidance for the installation, use and disposal of barrier films. This standard applies to films used during soil disinfection by fumigation (class 1) and to films used during soil disinfection (class 2) that are subsequently stored on-site as mulch films.

Peel strength reflects the energy required to delaminate a multilayer film under certain conditions. The measurement includes not only the interfacial mechanisms but also some plasticity mechanisms that occur in the various layers of the film and are likely rate-sensitive. Therefore, peel strength should be considered as a property of the film as a whole, rather than just an interface property.

First, a delamination is initiated at the interface to be characterized. Tensile force is then applied at a constant rate to the delaminated parts, so that separation occurs gradually. The force per unit width required to achieve separation represents the peel strength of the film.
