This standard is for passive infrared detectors installed in buildings. This standard does not contain requirements for detectors intended for outdoor use.
The detector's purpose is to detect the broad spectrum infrared radiation emitted by a burglar, analyze the resulting signals and provide the required range of signals or messages to be used by the rest of the intruder alarm system. The number and scope of these signals or messages will be more extensive for systems specified in higher degrees.
The grade dependent requirements of this standard apply and it is essential that a detector meets all the requirements of the specified grade. Additional functions may be included in the detector to the mandatory functions specified in this standard. Requirements for system interconnections are not included in this standard.
When turbulent hot air is blown into the detector's face, the detector should not start generating any signals or messages. The detector will not generate any signals or messages when a beam of visible light passes through the two panes of glass over the front window or lens.
All components, adjustment tools and access to mounting screws that, if tampered with, may adversely affect detector operation will be located within the detector enclosure.
