If spectral data are not available, the methodology can be adapted to use integrated data.

The method is valid for any sun protection device parallel to the glass, such as blinds, blinds or roller blinds. The curtain can be placed internally, externally or between glass panels. Ventilation of the shutter is allowed in each of these positions in determining the solar energy absorbed by the glass or shutter components for the vertical orientation of the glass.

Screen component materials may be transparent, translucent, or opaque and may be combined with glass components of known solar transmittance and reflectance and known emissivity for thermal radiation.

The method is based on the normal incidence of radiation and does not take into account the angular dependence of the transmittance or reflectance of materials. Radiation emitted by common irradiation or sun protection devices is treated as if it were direct. Shutters or venetian blinds are considered homogeneous materials with respect to their equivalent solar optical properties, which may depend on the angle of incident radiation. The current method is limited to ±15°C vertical installation. For situations outside the scope of this standard; ISO 15099 covers a wider range of situations.
