EN 581-1 Outdoor Furniture - Camping - Seating and Tables for Indoor and Contract Use Part 1: General Safety Requirements Test

This European standard specifies general safety requirements for outdoor seating and tables for adults for camping, domestic and contract use.

It does not apply to removable upholstery, coverings, seats for spectator facilities, seats for children and tables.

There will be no accessible shear and compression points created by applied loads during normal use. If there is a risk of injury from the weight of the user during normal movements and actions, cut and pinch points are unacceptable, e.g. attempting to move the seat by raising the seat or adjusting the backrest.

All parts lubricated to aid gliding shall be designed to protect users from oil stains in normal use.

Tubular components with a diameter of 7 mm to 12 mm and a depth of 10 mm or more must not have accessible holes at the ends. The lower parts of the pipe legs that touch the ground must be covered or capped, but holes in them are allowed as long as they are not between 7 and 12 mm.

There shall be no accessible cutting and clamping points created by parts of the furniture operated by electrical mechanisms.
