EN ISO 10545-13 specifies a test method for determining the chemical resistance of ceramic tiles at room temperature. The method can be applied to all types of ceramic tiles.
It allows the test samples to be exposed to the influence of test solutions and, after a certain time, to visually identify the attack.
For special cases, with the agreement of the interested parties, other test solutions may be tested using the procedure outlined in this document. No requirements apply in these situations.
Microwave, infrared, or other drying systems that allow shorter drying times may be used, provided the same results are found to be achieved.
To test for resistance to household chemicals, swimming pool salts, and citric acid, keep the test solutions in contact with the test sample for 24 hours. Remove the roller and clean the appropriate surface with a suitable solvent to completely remove the sealant. When using the partial immersion procedure, keep the test solutions in contact with the test specimens for 24 hours, then remove the test specimens.
To assess whether the pencil test is applicable, draw a few pencil lines on the untreated parts of the appropriate face of the tile and try to remove the marks with a wet cloth.
With the pen, draw a few lines on both the tested surface and the untreated surface. Try to remove the pencil lines with a wet cloth. If pencil marks are removed from the treated surface, it corresponds to surface class A, if not erased, to surface B.
