EN ISO 10618 Standard Test for Determination of Tensile Properties of Carbon Fiber, Resin Impregnated Yarn

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN ISO 10618 standard. EN ISO 10618 specifies a test method for determining the tensile strength, tensile modulus of elasticity and strain of a resin-impregnated yarn sample at maximum load.

The method can be applied to carbon fiber yarns (continuous and staple fiber yarns) for use as reinforcement in composite materials.

A yarn sample is uniformly impregnated with resin, then cured to provide test samples. Samples are stress-loaded at a constant rate with a suitable mechanical testing machine until failure.

The tensile modulus is determined by dividing the variation in stress by the corresponding variation in strain between two defined points. For carbon fiber yarns, the relationship between stress and strain is not linear, so a cord modulus must be defined. In method A the modulus is defined between two strain levels and in method B it is defined between two load levels. Linear density and size content must be determined independently.
