This standard, in conjunction with EN ISO 11296-1, specifies requirements and test methods for tubing formed in the field by spirally winding and joining a pre-manufactured profiled plastic strip or a profiled plastic strip and a solid interlocking connecting strip.
This applies to spirally wound pipes of fixed or variable diameter, made of profiled plastic strips, with or without steel reinforcing elements, and installed in one of two ways.
In the first method, a special wrapping machine is used in front of the open end of an existing pipeline, for example in a manhole. Pipes thus formed are simultaneously inserted into the existing pipeline by the winding forces and, with certain techniques, can also be expanded in diameter after or during insertion.
The second method uses a special winding machine that creates the pipe as it passes the existing pipeline from one manhole to another. It applies to profiled plastic strips of non-plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC U) with integrated locking mechanism or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with integrated welded joints.
The material of the profiled plastic strip shall be unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC‑U) or high density polyethylene (HDPE) with additives added to facilitate fabrication and/or installation of pipes conforming to this chapter.
Viewed without magnification, the surfaces of profiled plastic strips should be smooth, clean and free from scratches, voids and other defects that would prevent compliance with this part of EN ISO 11296.
