This European standard defines an index test method that covers laboratory measurement of water flow through saturated clay geosynthetic barrier (GBR-C) samples using a flexible wall permeability at constant load.

This test method is applicable to GBR-C products that do not have an additional sealing layer added. This test method provides a flux measurement under a predetermined set of conditions that can be used for production quality control. The test method can also be used to check compliance.

The system must be able to maintain constant hydraulic pressures in the range of ±2,5% and include means to measure hydraulic pressures within the prescribed tolerance. In addition, the system must be able to maintain a constant head loss in the range of ±5% across the test specimen and include means to measure head loss with the same accuracy or better.

Porous end pieces shall be of material that is not attacked by the sample or permeable liquid. End parts should have flat and smooth surfaces and be free of cracks, chips and irregularities. They should be checked regularly to make sure they are not clogged.
