EN ISO 2725-1 specifies the dimensions, identification and marking of hand-operated square sockets with working ends, in hexagonal or double-hex shape, in accordance with EN ISO 1174-1. This standard does not cover the technical specifications for these products. Technical specifications are given in EN ISO 1711-1.
Width tolerances along circles, s, shall conform to the tolerances for socket openings given in EN ISO 691. Manufacturers are free to choose their deviation series.
The tests should be performed after stabilization of the torque tool and test device to be tested at an ambient temperature of 20°C + 5°C.
The nominal flatness dimension of the test mandrel must be equal to the nominal dimension (s) with tolerance h8. The mandrel shall be hardened to not less than 55 HRC hardness. A device in which the mandrel can be rotated at a specified torque with an accuracy of ± 2,5% can also be used for this test. Any possible damage or deformation after the application of the minimum test torsional torque will not affect the usability of the tool.
Apply the load as far along the shaft of the switch as possible, perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. Use a suitable tester that will safely test large keys. For open jaw wrenches, the head must remain perpendicular to the axis of the mandrel during testing. For box wrenches, the axis of the head must remain perpendicular to the axis of the mandrel during testing.
A square mandrel with a hardness of not less than 55 HRC shall be used to drive the socket. The nominal flatness dimension of this mandrel will be equal to the maximum dimension of the corresponding square with tolerance h8.
