This International standard is based on a test method approved by the 2 International Optical Glass Expert Group of the International Glass Commission (ICG/TC 2) Technical Committee "Chemical durability and analysis".

After polishing, the samples should be cleaned as soon as possible. For this, 3 100 ml beakers are placed in an ultrasonic water bath. Contains water heated to 45 ± 3°C. Each beaker will contain enough isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly cover the samples to be cleaned.

During the entire cleaning procedure, samples will be held and transferred by tongs to avoid surface contamination such as fingerprints.

Immerse the sample in the first beaker for 1 minute with the applied ultrasonic effect; then clean the glass with a soft cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol and a lightly applied tissue paper. Complete the cleaning by immersing the sample in the second and third beakers, respectively, for 1 minute, applying the ultrasonic effect continuously.

At least two samples should be tested under the same conditions to calculate acid resistance. Place the test beaker filled with 2 liters of test solution into the heating bath, set the stirrer 15 mm above the bottom of the vessel and wait for the temperature to reach 25 ± 0,2°C.

Transfer the cleaned samples, which are cooled to room temperature in the desiccator, to the balance with the help of tongs. Weigh and record the mass in ml, weigh with an accuracy of ±0,1 mg. Always use two samples of the same glass for a test in the same test cup.
