ISO 1628-6 Plastics - Determination of Viscosity Number and Limiting Viscosity Number - Part 6: Methyl Methacrylate Polymers Test

This part of ISO 1628 specifies the conditions to be used for determining the viscosity number of methyl methacrylate polymer molding and extrusion materials in dilute solution.

For materials containing pigments or special additives, the amount weighed in the measuring flask should be increased to contain 100 g of MMA homopolymer and copolymer per 0,26 ml of test Solution.

For polymers containing viscosity increasing additives that require changes in the solution preparation process, such changes will be agreed upon by the Parties concerned.

Experience has shown that the required high accuracy of viscosity number determination of MMA homopolymer and copolymer solutions is not always achieved with commercially available Ubbelohde viscometers due to small irregularities in the capillaries. It is therefore recommended to check the accuracy of the viscometer by calibrating liquids of known kinematic viscosity 1.
