ISO 19014-2 Earthmoving Machinery - Design of Control System Hardware and Architectural Requirements

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of ISO 19014-2 testing. This standard specifies general principles for the development and evaluation of the achieved machine performance level (MPLa) of safety control systems (SCS) using components powered by all energy sources (e.g. electronic, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical) used in excavation.

ISO 19014-2 Earthmoving Machinery - Design of Control System Hardware and Architectural Requirements

The principles of this standard apply to machine control systems (MCS) that control machine movement or reduce a hazard; such systems are evaluated for the required machine performance level (MPL r ) according to ISO 19014-1 or ISO/TS 19014-5.

The following systems fall outside the scope of this standard:

  • Awareness systems that do not affect machine movement (eg cameras and radar detectors);
  • Fire suppression systems, unless activation of the system does not affect or activate another SCS.

Other systems or components that the operator may be aware of (eg windshield wipers, headlights, etc.) or primarily used to protect property are outside of this standard. Audible alerts are outside of diagnostic coverage requirements.

The standard provides guidelines for defining safety-related control functions and determining required performance levels. It also provides recommendations for the design and evaluation of the hardware and architecture of the control system, including the selection of components and materials, and the verification and validation of safety-related parts of the system.

ISO 19014-2 is applicable to all earthmoving machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders and other similar machinery. It is aimed to ensure that such machines are designed and produced with a focus on safety in order to prevent accidents or injuries to operators and people around.

Compliance with ISO 19014-2 can help ensure that earthmoving machinery meets required safety requirements and operates reliably under all foreseeable conditions. This can help reduce the risk of accidents, injuries and equipment damage while increasing overall operational efficiency and productivity.
