ISO 21809-3 specifies requirements for field joint lining of seamless or welded steel pipes for buried and submerged sections of pipeline transportation systems used in the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries, as defined in ISO 13623.
This part of ISO 21809 provides for the qualification, application and testing of corrosion protection coatings applied to exposed steel surfaces after welding pipes and fittings (components).
ISO 21809-3 does not address requirements for additional mechanical protection, thermal insulation or jointing of concrete-dominated lined pipes.
Surface preparation will be done in accordance with APS. The edges of the plant cover will be chamfered and the plant cover will be roughened to a minimum length based on the overlap of the plant cover.
Nominal thickness is the calculated sum of the thickness of all layers of the coating before application. The minimum thickness of the coating on the connecting body shall not be less than 90% of the nominal value or that accepted by the purchaser.
Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, the minimum waiting time between application of the coating and the peel strength test will be 120 hours. This waiting period can be reduced to 24 hours. However, if this test fails, it must be performed again after a waiting period of 120 hours.
