This standard provides a definition of interior noise for engineering and contracting purposes. This standard defines conditions for the purpose of obtaining reproducible and comparable noise levels and noise spectrum measurements in any motor vehicle used on the road, including where the driver and passengers are seated in an open cabin or in a well-defined area. The test methods described in this standard are not designed to measure pressure fluctuations at very low frequencies or to evaluate exposure to noise for comfort and safety, such as fatigue and alertness. Current possibilities of the technique do not yet allow a good correlation between the measured data and comfort and safety.
The test methods described in this standard are engineering methods defined in the ISO 2204 standard. With the pulse sound level meter, measurements can be made on sources emitting pulsed noise. In addition, according to this standard, when a measurement is repeated with other instruments of the same type or at other measuring locations or with other measuring instruments, plus / minus 3 dB degree differences can be seen.
