ISO 8791-2 Paper and Cardboard - Roughness-Smoothness Determination (Air Leak Methods) - Part 2: Bendtsen Method

ISO 8791-2 can be applied to paper and cardboard with Bendtsen roughness values ​​between about 5 ml/min and 3 ml/min and between about 000 ml/min and 50 ml/min when measured with variable field type testers. Not suitable for soft papers that allow the soil to make a significant impression on the surface, or high air permeability papers that allow significant airflow through the board, or papers that will not lie flat under the board.

For variable area flowmeter-type testers, it is known that the pressure between the flowmeter and the measuring head drops at high airflow rates, which can reduce the accuracy of the flowmeter reading. In electronic flowmeter type test devices, the pressure between the flowmeter and the measuring head is automatically controlled.

A capillary tube will be provided to verify the calibration of each variable area flowmeter. The capillary tubes must be within the operating range of the respective flowmeter and accurately calibrated against a reliable standard (for example, a soap bubble meter) under the same pressure difference as at the measuring head.
