Resistance of textile fabrics to absorb rain shower water. The criterion is the amount of water absorbed following the effects of a defined artificial rain shower over a defined period of time. Additionally, the amount of water and water flow penetrating the textile fabrics can be recorded.
Test samples of textile fabrics are mounted on containers and then exposed to an artificial rain shower under specified conditions. Water resistance is evaluated by visual comparison of wet samples with reference photographs. During the test, the water absorbed by the samples is weighed. Water penetrating the samples is also collected in containers and recorded.
The Bundesmann rain shower test involves exposing a fabric sample to a controlled flow of water in a rain-like manner. The fabric is mounted on a frame and water is sprayed on it from above at a certain rate and pressure. The test evaluates factors such as the time it takes for water to penetrate the fabric and whether the other side of the fabric gets wet. The results are used to evaluate the waterproofness of the fabric.
