Minimum Operating Performance Standards for RTCA DO 311 Rechargeable Lithium Batteries and Battery Systems

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of RTCA DO 311 standard. This standard applies to rechargeable lithium batteries and battery systems permanently installed in aircraft.

For the purposes of this standard, a battery or battery system is considered permanently installed equipment when included as part of the aircraft type design.

This standard also applies to rechargeable lithium batteries contained in Portable Electronic Devices (PEDs), which are part of the type design. This standard does not apply to primary (non-rechargeable) lithium batteries.

This standard does not require individual cell level testing or characterization of cell-battery senescence. Other standards such as UL, IEC and UN can be used to perform cell level testing or characterize the aging effects of the cell/battery.

This minimum operational performance standard (MOPS) is for rechargeable lithium batteries and battery systems permanently installed in aircraft. Provides design, analysis, testing and installation guidance for rechargeable lithium batteries and battery systems. The tests described in this standard provide a standard method for the verification (ie pass/fail) and characterization of the safety and performance of batteries and battery systems.
