The scope of NFPA 79 is for electrical parts of industrial equipment. Similar standards such as IEC 60204 and even IEC 61010 and IEC 60950 may apply, or there may be a specific standard such as IEC 60204 –33 that is more directly in scope for your equipment. IEC 60204-33 2009 applies to electrical and electronic equipment associated with semiconductor manufacturing equipment for the manufacture, measurement, testing and assembly of semiconductors.
Designing your equipment to NFPA 79 and using this standard during design, referencing it, and using it as a checklist during design reviews and product safety reviews will ensure that at the point you need an audit, certification or field labeling.
