RoHS Directive 2011/65 / EU Assessment

RoHS is a CE marking directive and if your product is covered it must bear a CE mark and be stated in the accompanying declaration of conformity.

RoHS Directive 2011/65 / EU Assessment

RoHS Directive compliance requires more than the collection of documents. EUROLAB can assist in collecting documents, evaluate according to EN 50581: 2012, and prepare a technical report in the same format as our security reports. We have years of experience in preparing RoHS reports for our customers to include in their technical files.

For example, do you differentiate between RoHS 2002/95 / EC, RoHS 2011/65 / EU and the new amendment (EU) 2015/863? We can take this burden from your staff and handle it for you.

RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) applies to everything that is 'EEE' (electrical and electronic equipment). This means anything with any electrical function. It could even be a gas-fired mower with a spark igniter.

The following categories are covered under the RoHS Directive Annex I:

  • Great home appliances.
  • Small appliances.
  • IT and telecommunications equipment.
  • Consumer equipment.
  • Lighting equipment.
  • Electric and electronic tools.
  • Toys, entertainment and sports equipment.
  • Medical devices.
  • Monitoring and control devices, including industrial monitoring and control devices.
  • Automatic dispensers.
  • Other EEE not in any of the above categories.

All equipment in the list above must comply with the material restrictions set out in Annex II of the RoHS Directive:

  • Lead (0,1%)
  • Mercury (0,1%)
  • Cadmium (0,01%)
  • Hexavalent chromium (0,1%)
  • Polychrome biphenyls (PBB) (0,1%)
  • Polychrome diphenyl ethers (PBDE) (0,1%)

Annex II (EU) was amended by Directive 2015/863 and adds the following four major restrictions:

  • Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (0,1%)
  • Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) (0,1%)
  • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (0,1%)
  • Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (0,1%)

The original list of 6 is now restricted. Annex 4 will be restricted starting July 22, 2019. This means that if your product is covered by RoHS, each item (even paint, screws, plastic enclosures, and labels) should be compatible independently.

In addition, if your product is covered by the RoHS Directive and you place a CE mark on it, it means that you claim to comply with the RoHS Directive 2011/65 / EU.
