EN 14764 City and Walking Bikes - Safety Requirements and Test Methods

This European standard specifies safety and performance requirements for the design, assembly and testing of bicycles and subassemblies intended for use on public roads and lays down guidelines for instructions for the use and maintenance of such bicycles.

This European Standard applies to bicycles with a maximum seat height of 635 mm or more and intended for use on public roads. This standard does not apply to mountain bikes and racing bikes, tradesman delivery bikes, recumbent bikes, tandems and bicycles designed and equipped for use in approved competition events.

For static, impact, and fatigue tests in general, each test should be performed on a new test specimen, but if only one specimen is available, all tests are allowed in the fatigue test sequence on the same specimen.

When more than one test is performed on the same sample, the test sequence should be clearly recorded in the test report or test record.

The folding mechanisms should be designed in such a way that the bike can be locked for simple, solid, safe use and that no cables are damaged when folded. No locking mechanisms should come into contact with the wheels or tires while driving, and it should not be possible to unintentionally loosen or unlock the folding mechanisms while driving.
