EN 622-2 Fiberboards - Requirements Test for Chipboards

Fiberboard is a type of fiberboard that is denser and stronger than other types of fiberboard. They are often used in applications where strength and durability are important, such as underfloor, wall covering and furniture construction.

EN 622-2 specifies requirements for particle boards for general use. The standard covers both wet-process chipboards made by soaking wood fibers before pressing, and dry-processing chipboards made by pressing dry wood fibers together.

Some of the special requirements for chipboards in EN 622-2 include:

• Density: The density of chipboards should be more than 800 kg/m³;
• Thickness swelling: Chipboards should not swell more than 10% when immersed in water;
• Water absorption: Rigid boards should not absorb more than 24% of their weight in water when immersed in water for 30 hours;
• Internal bond strength: The internal bond strength of chipboards should be at least 0,2 N/mm²;
• Modulus of rupture: The modulus of rupture (a measure of their strength) of chipboards must be at least 20 N/mm².

EN 622-2 also contains requirements for formaldehyde emissions, marking and labeling, and test methods. In general, EN 622-2 provides a set of standards and specifications that manufacturers can use to ensure their chipboard meets certain quality and performance criteria.
