EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of SATRA TM108 test standard. The purpose of this method is to determine the force required to separate the upper part (upper lift) from the heel of a shoe.
For a top piece molded around a metal spigot, the method can also be used to evaluate the bond strength of the top piece to the faucet, whether or not it is fitted into a heel. The method is applicable to all types of upper parts, but especially to plastic types used on raised heels. The force required to remove the front of the upper part from the heel or spigot is measured.
This method covers two basic types of structures:
Structure A: Top parts without tap
Structure B: Polymeric upper parts with a plug
When the upper piece is aligned horizontally, one of the leading edge corners adjacent the heel chest is pulled away from the heel by means of a tensile strength tester in a direction perpendicular to the heel interface of the upper piece until it separates.
Separated from the heel (Structure A) or, in the case of small uppers, from the metal plug cap contained within (Structure B), the upper part corner is pulled through a wire loop that is passed through a hole drilled near the corner, perpendicular to the upper part heel interface.
When the upper piece is attached to a heel, it is necessary to cut a small portion of the heel corner first to allow the wire loop to pass completely through the thickness of the upper part. The heel (or upper part spout in Structure B) is connected to the other jaw of the tensile tester.
