DIN 8964-1 Circuit Components for Refrigeration Systems - Part 1: Tests

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of DIN 8964-1 testing. This standard will be used for testing circuit parts. The subject of the test is the surfaces or volumes of the circuit parts in contact with the refrigerant. Test methods and devices are described as examples, equivalent methods and devices are described as examples, equivalent methods and devices are allowed.

The water in the pipes or channels of the circuit parts can be found as steam in the space, as a water crust on the surfaces or as absorbed on the organic materials. Due to the sensitivity of the refrigerant circuit to water, the limit content must be very low.

In order to determine the water mass in the pipes according to DIN 8905-1, it is necessary to prepare a pipe sample so that the surface of this test piece, called the "circulation piece", does not come into contact with water. Dry air or nitrogen is blown from the circuit part. The relative humidity of the emitted gas is measured with a hygrometer. It is related to the liquid water in the circuit part.

The separating funnel is connected to the three-way valve with a piece of hose to determine the volume of the fittings (hose parts, outlet pipe in the separating funnel and three-way tap). The piece of tubing provided to connect the circuit piece is also connected to the three-way valve. The open end of this part of the hose should be tightly closed with a stopper. The stopper is pushed in until the hose is then pushed through the connection in the circuit part.

The circuit piece is connected to the test system and the reference vessel and the corresponding line volume are filled with dry nitrogen. Overpressure is measured using a precision pressure gauge. A connection is then established to the unknown volume under atmospheric air pressure.

There are oily and solid dirt as well as solid impurities on the inner surfaces of the working parts. The limit contents for circuit parts to be used in the refrigerant circuit should be low, due to the risk of clogging and the possibility of chemical reaction, which can be caused by solid, washable and soluble (solid, oily) residues. To determine the solid residue and soluble residue that can be washed, the circuit parts are rinsed with a mixture of equal volumes of acetone (for analysis) and methanol (for analysis) and the Mass of the separated substances is determined.
