This European standard covers the construction and performance requirements and testing of water flow detectors used in wet pipe automatic sprinkler systems conforming to EN 12845 "Fixed fire extinguishing systems - Automatic sprinkler systems - Design and Installation". Auxiliary components and add-ons of water flow detectors are not covered by this standard.
Parts of the detectors that retain water pressure (except gaskets or gaskets) shall be made of cast iron, bronze, brass, monel metal, stainless steel, titanium, aluminum alloy or materials with equivalent physical and mechanical properties. Aluminum alloy and cast iron will not come into contact with water.
All parts and bearings where rotational or sliding movement is required, except gaskets, gaskets and diaphragms, shall be made of bronze, brass, monel metal, stainless steel, titanium or materials with equivalent physical and mechanical properties.
An initial type test shall be carried out to demonstrate compliance with this standard (same product, same characteristic(s), test method, sampling procedure and verification system). Previous tests carried out in accordance with the provisions of this standard may be taken into account. In addition, initial type tests shall be carried out at the beginning of the production of a new product type or at the beginning of a new production method (in cases that may affect the specified properties).
